I owe my leather roots to a wonderful woman, my leather mentor Ana. Without her helping hand in navigating the community as a whole, it would have eaten me alive. Our relationship has lasted for over 14 years now. While the phone calls and visits are fewer and further in-between, I nonetheless feel attached to this person. The encyclopedia of her life-lessons runs through my mind as I see my mistakes. I can only think...Shit...I know better. We worked because we spoke the same language, I was truly lucky to have found such a person.
I find myself on this new path that I am not sure how to navigate. It means I have to share who I am and ask for help. As the Queer sphere mentorship program grows, I am looking to everyone to help be that special person in someone’s life.
